Mustard Seed Foundation
The Mustard Seed Foundation is a Christian family foundation established in 1983 under the leadership of Dennis W. Bakke and Eileen Harvey Bakke. The Foundation was created as an expression of the Bakke's desire to be faithful stewards of the financial resources entrusted to them, to bring together the members of their extended families into common ministry, and to advance the Kingdom of God. The Foundation provides grants primarily to churches worldwide that are undertaking new ministry projects including outreach, discipleship, and economic empowerment. The Foundation also awards scholarships to Christians pursuing advanced educational degrees in preparation for leadership roles in society. The Foundation affirms the Lausanne Covenant as its missional commitment to the world. All directors and staff of the Mustard Seed Foundation are committed followers of Jesus Christ.
Over the past 40 years, the Mustard Seed Foundation has awarded roughly $110 million in support of nearly 8,000 grassroots grants in support of Christian ministry worldwide. It has also awarded over 10,000 scholarships to support students pursuing formal studies to prepare for ministry within the Church and society and enabled nearly 100,000 individuals to gain a strong theology of work to empower their work in the world. The Foundation awarded its last grants and scholarships in 2023 and will complete the process of its sunsetting early in 2024.
